Bellaghy whistler Barry Cassidy will take charge of Sunday’s Connacht SFC Final between Galway and Roscommon.

It is his second provincial final in two seasons, after being the man in the middle when Dublin beat Laois in the 2018 Leinster Final.

Cassidy had a hectic 24 hours in March this year after being appointed to two of the highest profiles games on the calendar.

He took centre-stage as Corofin turned on the style against Dr Crokes in the All-Ireland Club Final, before taking charge of the MacRory Cup Final just over 24 hours  later.

And this all after being best man at his brother Aaron’s wedding.

An ever present on the referee championship panel since being selected for the 2012 season, he began refereeing in 2002, a season that saw him take charge of both the drawn and replayed U14 county finals between Kilrea and Dungiven.

The Bellaghy man refereed the All-Ireland Minor Final in 2012.  Two years later he took charge of the All-Ireland U21 Final between Roscommon and Dublin,

Away from the GAA, he boxed for almost 12 years, amassing a total of 62 fights for Draperstown ABC, Ulster and Ireland.
